Let's take a normal, everyday kind of car. Let's say you've got a 4 year old 1.4 ltr car doing 4,000 miles a year. This seemingly economical car could be costing you over £3,000 per year to own!

• £360 interest (the amount a car costs in finance. You own the car, we hear you say, well this also applies as lost interest from the bank by having the money on your drive instead of in the bank)

• £480 fuel at 12p per mile for 4,000 miles

So think about it, when you consider there are 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year, the average car is used just 7% of the time unless required for work. That's alot of money going out for just 7% of the potential movement!
